CFC Media Lab Alumnus Book Launch TONIGHT!

Come celebrate the first book by CFC Media Lab Alumnus, Shawn Micallef:

STROLL: PSYCHOGEOGRAPHIC WALKING TOURS OF TORONTO
Featuring illustrations and maps by Marlena Zuber, published by Coach House Books.

WHERE: Lula Lounge, 1585 Dundas St. W., West of Dufferin, Toronto

WHEN: Tonight! Tuesday, May 18, Doors at 7p/Show at 8p

Shawn Micallef has been involved with such city-based projects and publications as [murmur]*, Spacing, Eye Weekly and the new Yonge Street online magazine. His first book (a co-publication with Eye Weekly) features a collection of Micallef’s psychogeographic reportages — some of which have been featured in Eye Weekly (and since expanded) — that situate Toronto’s buildings and streets in living, breathing detail, and tell us about the people who use them, the ways they are being used and how they are evolving.

Eye Weekly’s Edward Keenan will interview author Shawn Micallef live on-stage.
There will be snacks and maps and will be capped off with nothing less than a DJ’ed dance party!

This is a reminder for the CFC Media Lab’s Inaugural Vanguard Party @ Hot Docs celebrating 2010 Honoree: Pop Sandbox with their release of KENK, a 304-page journalistic comic book in bookstores this May. The entire creative team will be on hand to celebrate the release and do a special short presentation as well as display original artwork, animation and more.

WHEN: Thurs. May 6, 7pm ‘til late

WHERE: Cadillac Lounge (1296 Queen St W)

ADMISSION: Free!

Presented by Pop Sandbox, TCAF, Hot Docs, The CFC Media Lab, TCHAD Magazine, NOW Magazine & Steam Whistle. KENK includes a robust interactive on-line component produced with the support of the CFC Media Lab and an animated film treatment in development.

CFC Media Lab Alumnus, Shawn Micallef, authors “Stroll: Psychogeographic Walking Tours of Toronto” (Coach House/May), one of the books recognized by the National Post’s list of Most Anticipated Books of 2010.

Micallef has been writing the “Stroll” column for Toronto’s Eye Weekly for years. This book collects and expands some of his favourite pieces.
