Looking for Breakthrough Interface Design Ideas for a Mobile Video-On-Demand ServiceAbout Us:
Jigsee’s technology delivers stable video in unstable, congested mobile environments. With over 275,000 mobile broadcast and streaming clients downloaded globally and field tested by more than 10,000 Mobile TV end-users in Bangladesh, Jigsee is poised to become the mobile-video iTunes for emerging markets.
Mobile subscribers in emerging markets have demonstrated a voracious appetite for premium video content on mobile handsets, if priced affordably and delivered reliably to mass-market phones. In countries such as India, where the majority of the population carry low-end J2ME and Symbian phones, and where network’s are congested and slow, mobile video is currently inaccessible.
This is where we come in. Our technology is tried and tested. We’ve developed a system that allows users to purchase their favourite video content (movies, TV shows, music videos, etc) in 2 minute increments using cheap and affordable time-credits. We’re working with one of the top content companies in India to launch our product in the next 6 months. Now we need an interface which is intuitive, fun-to-use and pleasing to the eyes. The catch: the design needs to work on J2ME and Symbian phones, since those are the most popular handsets in developing countries.
Target Market:
Our target is emerging markets such as India, Pakistan, the Middle East and Brazil which are experiencing explosive growth in wireless subscribers, and will continue to maintain the pace for at least the next 5 years. Our first market is India, which currently has a base of 400 million subscribers, and is expected to surpass 1 billion mobile subscribers by 2014.
Our audience is the mass market. People who can’t quite afford iPhones and Blackberries, but who have a huge appetite for mobile video content: Movies, Cricket, Soaps, Music Videos and more. Many of these people lack access to cable or high-speed internet. But they do carry around Nokia Series 40, and Sony Erricson Handsets.
In these parts of the world, 90% of mobile subscriptions are pre-paid. Most consumers lack credit cards. Jigsee time-credits can be obtained through reverse-SMS, pre-paid card refill packs, shared between friends, or even earned through responses to survey questions or other forms of interaction.
Requirements:
Your submission must include designs of 5 key screens within the application. We’ll provide you with details of the functions each of these screens will provide. Aside from the functions that need to be incorporated within the application, and the fact that this needs to work on J2ME and Symbian phones, you’ll have free reign. We’re looking for out of the box thinking. The application interface needs to be intuitive, fun to use, and quick!
Next Steps:
Email ray.newal@jigsee.com for details. You’ll be asked to sign a standard Non-Disclosure Agreement, and you’ll be provided with a user flow presentation which outlines the function and points of interaction within the application
Deadline for entries is August
